Zili is a free entertainment application that offers a platform for short, fun, and thought-provoking videos, largely catering to the Indian audience.

What is Zili?

Zili is a mobile application owned by the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi. It is primarily a short-video platform providing a variety of entertaining, inspiring, and thought-provoking video content. It has become a major player in the mobile entertainment sector in India, especially after the ban on TikTok in 2020. Despite the nationwide ban on several Chinese apps by the Indian government, Zili remained unaffected and continued to provide its service. It offers users a vast collection of trending videos, including comedy skits, movie snippets, global talents, dance routines, and new music videos.

User Experience

The application allows its users to become influencers by uploading their own videos. It requires creativity and humor to gain a substantial following and achieve influencer status. The videos can be shared with a larger audience through integration with WhatsApp and Facebook. However, the app has a drawback regarding music integration. Users often encounter difficulties while attempting to add music to their videos.

Shutdown Announcement

Zili has announced its closure on March 13, 2023, due to an operational adjustment. As a result, users will no longer be able to upload or view content or visit a creator's profile from that date. Users can, however, download their content and redeem or exchange their Z-Points before the application ceases operations. Post shutdown, all user data will be removed from the server, making it irretrievable.

Zili as a TikTok Replacement

With the ban on TikTok in India, Zili emerged as a viable alternative, offering similar entertainment. However, with the announced shutdown, users will need to find another platform for creating and viewing content.
